"I am an Honorably Retired Federal Law Enforcement Officer with a CCW issued in accordance with LEOSA (HR-218). Not surprisingly, like other Retired LEOs I am sure, it is vitally important to me to maintain my proficiency with my CCW handguns, as well as stay current with the latest CCW technology and practices - specifically including transitioning my CCW handguns (Glocks) from traditional "Iron" to Red Dot Sights.

Fortunately for me, I learned of Ian McKnight's (ADVANTAGE Personal Defense and Tactics) 16 hour - Red Dot Transition Training Course and signed up immediately for the next offering. Being familiar with Ian McKnight's exceptional reputation in his capacity as a Law Enforcement Rangemaster/Firearms Instructor, I admittedly had very high expectations for his Red Dot Transition Course.

Well, after completing the Red Dot Transition Course this past weekend, I can honestly say (even with my initially high expectations), Ian McKnight's Course EXCEEDED MY EVERY EXPECTATION ! Simply put, it is very apparent that Ian McKnight strives for PERFECTION in every aspect of his firearms instruction.

To begin with, the Red Dot Transition Course contained an enormous amount of useful information on Red Dot Sights, CCW Firearms, and Equipment. Information that Ian has garnered through his first-hand experience. However, it is Ian's personal instruction with the students out on the range, that is his forte. Specifically, the training segments are logically designed by Ian to gradually and progressively develop your skills and proficiency with Red Dot Sights, every step of the way through the course.

Like I said earlier, Ian is not only a Perfectionist, but he also a true Professional in his Instruction - his advice and recommendations are applied to every aspect of shooting with Red Dot Sights, e.g., draw, grip, stance, sight picture, etc., there were no details ignored by Ian.

It should also be mentioned that even though Ian is a highly respected firearm professional by the Federal, State and Local law enforcement community, he is able to conduct his class in a manner that is safe and enjoyable to his students of all levels of experience - that to me is a real gift.

Finally, not only did Ian successfully transition this 32 year career Federal LEO from Iron to Red Dot Sights - his contemporary style of instruction dramatically improved my overall handgun shooting skills.

Thank you very much Ian, that was easily one of the most beneficial and meaningful courses I have ever attended. I am anxiously looking forward to taking many more of your courses in the near future."

My testimony regarding Ian McKnight:

I have carried a concealed firearm since 1985.

Since then, I have met several concealed carry weapons (CCW) instructors in three different counties in California. By far Ian McKnight is the gold standard for not just CCW classes but knowing how to teach people in general. Ian knows how to facilitate and educate people.

If you attend a CCW class, you will learn about everything you need to know about the laws, what you should, and should not do, situational awareness, dealing with law enforcement, where you can and cannot carry etc. It is not designed to teach a person how to shoot nor should it be. Anyone who has a CCW or is planning on getting their CCW should know how to operate their firearm and correct any malfunction already and be proficient.

Unfortunately, other CCW instructors in this county have been known to teach individuals unsafe behaviors and or tactics that could result in serious injuries and or death.

Everyone has their own compliances right wrong or indifferent. Ian can see when people are struggling or do not understand something. He will not only provide guidance but the why with his vast years of experience. When it comes to firearm instruction, Ian McKnight should be your first and only thought.
